Michelle O’Neill and Emma Little-Pengelly, speaking at the Ireland Funds Gala in Washington, welcomed the positive and real impact made across society by the philanthropic body.

First Minister Michelle O’Neill said:

“The Ireland Funds Gala celebrates the deep ties, heritage and friendship that exists between the island of Ireland and the United States of America. Whilst there is an ocean between the two places that we call home, a special bond has always existed.

“We are extremely fortunate to have such committed friends across the globe and particularly here in the US and I want to thank you for your steadfast dedication to promote and support peace both across the island and amongst Irish communities around the world.

“There is no question that there has been radical transformation over the past 25 years and we now live in a happier and more prosperous society. As we continue this journey to build a better shared future for our children, you will continue to play a crucial role.”

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly said:

“The Ireland Funds is a global network of friends which have demonstrated time and again that it will support the people of Northern Ireland and the Executive’s ambitions of lasting peace and prosperity for all we represent.

“Despite the divisions of the past, people ultimately have the same hopes and aspirations, regardless of their background. Most don’t wake up thinking about politics – instead they think of their children, their lives and those around them.

“The Ireland Funds supports thousands of organisations who touch the lives of real people, increase opportunities and improve our society every day. In the Executive we are determined to make a real difference and I look forward to continuing this journey with you in the future.”
