About the Project:

Banagher GAC is a voluntary Gaelic Athletic Club, which provides opportunities for both adults and young people in the Feeny area, Limavady, to participate in sporting and recreational activities.

The project involved the development of a state-of-the-art lifestyle fitness suite and youth recreation/multi-use community facility which provides for the creation of indoor recreation facilities for the local community and the surrounding rural district, and replace the existing outdoor playing field used exclusively for GAA Club activities.  The project provided a base for a broader and more extensive range of rural activities to include indoor play, recreation, multi games and physical activity, removing the limitations imposed by the current provisions which are not all-weather facilities.

Capital works allowed the provision of a community centre/hall, 3G indoor pitch, community meeting rooms, activity rooms, kitchen, changing rooms and community gym.

Progress to date:

This project has been completed construction and is operational.  Along with the Youth Sport Omagh project, SIF investment has developed and enhanced two capital health and wellbeing sporting projects designed to enhance the physical health and wellbeing of individuals living in the SIF Western Zone. The state-of-the-art lifestyle fitness suite and multi-use community facility have provided a foundation for a broader and more extensive range of community activities which will promote leisure, health, physical activity and will support good relations in the local community and surrounding areas.

Impacts:

Monitoring and evaluation of all Social Investment Fund projects is carried out using “Outcomes Based Accountability” (OBA). Where SIF has funded capital works, the project provides quarterly “post-capital” data for a period of 3 years which details the positive impacts enabled by the capital works undertaken. The final capital infographic below highlights some of the key impacts of the project to date. The St Mary’s Banagher project is in the early stages of post capital OBA returns and OBA final capital infographic is attached below.
