    The Executive Office, formerly OFMDFM, provides advice, support and challenge to NICS departments on the application of Human Rights and/or Section 75 responsibilities.

    The Executive Office's, responsibilities involve:

    • ensuring that all areas of legislation, policy and administration practice in departments comply with the European Convention on Human Rights
    • promotion of a culture of rights and responsibilities within the Civil Service and other public authorities and promotes awareness of other Human Rights considerations under international instruments to which the UK is a signatory
    • the development of relationships with the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission which is appointed by the Secretary of State

    Equality Commission

    The Equality and Rights Unit has oversight responsibility for the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (ECNI).
