Colin Urban Village Area
Colin Town Centre Transport Hub and Civic Square
Work has recently started on the construction of the Colin Town Centre Transport Hub and Civic Square. The project is part of the Urban Villages Initiative’s commitment to improving the physical environment in the Colin area.
Annie Armstrong, Manager, Colin Neighbourhood Partnership said: "This project marks the beginning of an exciting change for everyone living in and visiting the Colin area. In addition to the great new transport system, the integrated community space will allow public events to be hosted, such as markets, carnivals and Christmas celebrations.”
This new facility will be a major asset to everyone in and around the area. It will improve accessibility and connectivity across Belfast and it will create a lively centre point for community activity and public events.
Linsey Farrell, Programme Director, the Urban Villages Initiative, commented: "The Urban Villages Initiative is working in partnership with the Department for Infrastructure and the Belfast Rapid Transit team to deliver a joined up solution that will not only improve the connectivity of Colin but will also provide much needed community and civic space to support a wide range of vibrant community activities."
When BRT becomes operational in September 2018, it will provide faster and more frequent services, and will connect West Belfast, East Belfast and Titanic Quarter via the city centre. The high quality service will provide people with better access to jobs, hospitals, shops, schools, colleges and entertainment, and will also open up opportunity for investment and enterprise in the Colin area.

New Capital Projects
The Urban Villages Team recently invited proposals for capital projects to inform the development of a pipeline of potential capital projects across Urban Village areas. These proposals were assessed for strategic fit with Urban Villages aims and outcomes. Proposed projects which met the minimum standard are being taken forward for further consideration and development. The Urban Villages team is currently working with organisations to develop these projects and associated business cases. More information on these projects can be provided upon request.
