EastSide Urban Village Area
Northern Ireland’s First Active Travel Hub Opens in EastSide Urban Village Area
Having invested in the Belfast Bikes based at the CS Lewis Square earlier this year, the Urban Villages Initiative is continuing to invest in active lifestyle options for the local community living in the EastSide Urban Village area, by funding the Container Hub and pocket park where the Active Travel Hub will be based.
The Active Travel Hub is the first one in Northern Ireland and will be a base for Sustrans, a cycling and walking charity. The project will encourage commuters and locals in East Belfast to try travel alternatives, such as public transport or cycling and walking along the Comber Greenway. The project will be run from the eye-catching container hub based in the new community pocket park in the EastSide Urban Villages area.
The project funded by the Urban Villages Initiative regenerates a previously derelict site, transformed with landscaping, planting, street furniture and three shipping containers for various uses, including the Active Travel Hub and a cycling café.
