  • Executive committed to Ending Violence Against Women and Girls

    Date published: 2 December 2025

As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Executive has reaffirmed its determination to tackle all forms of gender-based violence, abuse, and harm.

“Violence against women and girls is one of the most pressing challenges facing our society.

“The Executive remains committed to driving cultural and systemic change, working with partners across government, communities, and voluntary sectors to stop violence before it starts.

“We are united in our commitment to create a changed society where women and girls are free from all forms of gender-based violence, abuse and harm, including the attitudes, systems and structural inequalities that perpetuate them.”

    Notes to editors:

    1. Ending Violence Against Women and Girls is an Executive priority.  £3.2 million has been invested up to March 2026 to fund community-based action with a focus on prevention.
    2. £1.4m has been invested in the Local Change Fund to equip grass roots community groups to develop programmes to deal with this issue.
    3. £1.2m has been invested in the Regional Change Fund to support eight key organisations, which includes the delivery of programmes to 22,000 participants across schools, communities and workplaces across NI in raising awareness, prevention and capacity building work.
    4. £655k has been invested in the Momentum Fund which has supported Councils in tailoring support and prevention initiatives to the unique needs of their communities.  An additional £2.2m has also been recently approved.
