Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland – recruitment competition launched

The Executive Office today launched a competition to appoint a new Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland (PONI).
The role of The Ombudsman is to provide an independent and impartial police complaints service in which both the public and the police have confidence. They also work closely with the public, police, the institutions of the local administration, including the NI Policing Board, the Public Prosecution Service, solicitors and various advocacy organisations, as well as with the media.

Notes to editors:
- The Police Ombudsman for NI appointment is regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for NI (CPANI).
- This post is a full-time appointment for a single period of seven years or a period ending on the date on which the person appointed attains the age of 70, whichever is the earlier subject to satisfactory performance.
- The remuneration for the Ombudsman will be £173,854 per annum. The postholder is eligible to join the NICS pension scheme. Reasonable travel and subsistence expenses incurred will be paid at Northern Ireland Civil Service rates. Commuting to and from office is not paid.
