  • Ross pays tribute to the Royal Marines

    Date published: 16 October 2016

Junior Minister Alastair Ross today attended an event to commemorate all those who served in the Royal Marines from the four provinces of Ireland.

The event, held on HMS Caroline, was organised by the Royal Marines Association and was attended by Royal Marine veterans and serving personnel.

Speaking after the ceremony Junior Minister Ross said: “The Royal Marines can trace their origins back to October 1664 and were formed as the Royal Navy’s infantry troops in 1755. During their long history they have fought at some of our most historic moments including the Gallipoli landing during World War One.

“It is important we remember that many of those who served came from differing backgrounds, communities and faiths; brought together in a common cause.

“Today is an appropriate commemoration for all of those who have served and the many that lost their lives at war. I pay tribute to the Royal Marines in service today, to the veterans and all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.”
