In 2014, a small grant scheme was established by The Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister to fund additional support service projects to victims and survivors of Historical Institutional Abuse (HIA). The aim of the scheme is to help improve the lives of victims and survivors through the provision of funding for social support activity, enabling them to maintain engagement with The Executive Office and to support each other.

This guidance explains what funding is available, what it can be used to fund and the type of organisations that can apply. It also tells you about the criteria against which your application will be judged and the conditions that will be placed on the funding if you are successful.

The scheme will complement the Advice and Support Service that is available to victims and survivors of HIA through Advice NI.  Via this service, free confidential advice and support is available on issues such as Social Security, Money Advice, Post HIA Inquiry concerns and the searching for personal, medical, institutional and family historical records.

Those interested in availing of the HIA Advice and Support Service should contact Advice NI on 028 9064 5919 and ask for the HIA adviser.
