Joint Flags Protocol 2005The display of flags, in the Northern Ireland context, is an emotive issue, which has existed for some time. Flags may be used for many purposes which can include:
- celebration of cultural identity;
- marking a festive event;
- sectarianism or intimidation;
- marking out of territory.
