About the Project
The Transitions project delivered three evidence based interventions across the SIF South Eastern Zone aimed at tackling the systematic issues and reducing the risk factors linked to educational underachievement. The project focused on key transition stages at pre-school, primary and post-primary school and sought to establish collaborative working between parents, pupils and schools.
The three interventions used were:
-
Incredible Years – encompassing a 5 week School Readiness and a 14 week pre-school basic parenting programme;
-
Partnership with Parents – aimed at parents with children from 0-18 but focussed on pre-school providing necessary support with their parent-child relationship, behaviour management and child development; and
- Mentoring for Achievement Programme (MAP) – working with young people within the school environment through a two year individual mentoring scheme supported by small group work and parental engagement.
Progress to date
This project has completed delivery. Participants received support based upon individual needs and feedback has been very encouraging with positive outcomes achieved for children, parents and families. Development of partnership working and collaboration was beneficial in terms of programme delivery and shared learning. Enhanced infrastructure, capacity and experience have been built within local communities that will support early intervention initiatives going forward. The project supported the establishment of Locality Planning Groups in Ards, North Down and Down. This is a key element of sustainability of this project and can support further partnership working and engagement in the future to the benefit of children and families.
Impacts
Monitoring and evaluation of all Social Investment Fund projects is carried out using “Outcomes Based Accountability” (OBA). The below infographics detail some of the key impacts of the Transitions project.
