    About the Project:

    The Ballyhornan project was one element of the SIF Community Operated Sports project and involved the development of a full sized 3G pitch with changing facilities, floodlighting and fencing with adjoining carpark.

    The main objectives of the project were:

    • to enhance access to community services through creating a new community based sustainable sports facility;
    • to contribute to improvements in health and wellbeing, social, economic and physical outcomes for residents;
    • to contribute to increasing community sports participation; and
    • to provide communities with an opportunity to build community capacity.

    Progress to date:

    The project has completed construction and is operational. The new community facility will increase access to a wide range of community services and sporting activities by providing a fit for purpose, safe, structured, environment that will improve health and wellbeing and boost physical activity for those in the Ballyhornan area and wider. It will provide opportunities for communities to build capacity and get involved in running the facilities which in turn will help develop and enhance educational, sporting, social and economic skills. It will also have positive impacts on the physical regeneration of the area and improve cohesion across the SIF South Eastern zone.

    Impacts:

    Monitoring and evaluation of all Social Investment Fund projects is carried out using “Outcomes Based Accountability” (OBA). Where SIF has funded capital works, the project provides quarterly “post-capital” data for a period of 3 years which details the positive impacts enabled by the capital works undertaken. The final capital infographic below highlights some of the key impacts of the project to date. The Ballyhornan project is in the early stages of post capital OBA returns and OBA data collection is ongoing for the final post capital infographic.
