About the Project
Templemore Avenue Schools Trust developed the former Templemore Avenue School into the East Belfast Network Centre, housing an advice centre, childcare facility, counselling centre, community development agency, café and health information facility as well as conference, meeting rooms and exhibition facilities. The original funding package for the substantial redevelopment did not include furniture and fit out costs for the full building.
SIF funding was obtained to purchase office furniture for the offices and public space for the community based projects as well as the purchase of children’s play equipment to provide a childcare facility in the centre. This has helped improve the centre, assisting in the expansion of childcare capacity, increasing the number and range of community outreach services being offered and has allowed the centre to secure tenants ensuring long term sustainability.
Progress to date
This project has been completed and the new facilities have been operational from March 2017. This has been an efficacious project which has brought a new fitted out community space to a targeted area in the SIF Belfast East zone. 100% of office space has been occupied and 100% of childcare places filled. There are 36 additional jobs in the centre office facilities compared to pre-SIF and 16 new jobs have been added through access to play equipment demonstrating the positive impact this project has had on the local areas.
Impacts
Monitoring and evaluation of all Social Investment Fund projects is carried out using “Outcomes Based Accountability” (OBA). Where SIF has funded capital works, the project provides quarterly “post-capital” data for a period of 3 years which details the positive impacts enabled by the capital works undertaken. The Templemore Avenue project has completed its 3 years of post-capital monitoring. Below are the final capital and post capital infographics which highlight the key impacts of the project.
