SIF provided funding of over £400,000 for renovation of a community hall to create a community hub providing valuable community services.

    Project Name:

    St Canice’s Hall

    Zone:

    Western

    Category:

    Capital

    Social Investment Fund Outcomes:

    Increasing Community Services

    Status:

    Operational – Construction Complete

    Funding awarded:

    £477,492

    About the Project:

The project involved the renovation of St Canice’s Hall in Dungiven in order to develop a vibrant community hub to improve and increase community services for the use of everyone within the area in the SIF Western zone.

The hall required major refurbishment and underwent internal demolition and remodelling to bring the building up to a modern fit for purpose standard that met health and safety and DDA requirements. The new facilities and decoration have provided important communal space for community functions and events and also protect and preserve the built cultural heritage of the locality.

    Progress to date:

This project has completed construction and is operational. The new family resource centre will provide valuable shared space which will improve the quality, capacity and range of vital community services offered to help meet the needs of the local communities and will encourage social interaction. This will help contribute to community cohesion and assist with the education, employment and health and wellbeing ultimately improving the quality of life for people within these communities. The new centre and services has enabled the group to secure funding for a further phase of development to include residential facilities to further expand services, products and community delivery.

    Impacts:

Monitoring and evaluation of all Social Investment Fund projects is carried out using “Outcomes Based Accountability” (OBA). Where SIF has funded capital works, the project provides quarterly “post-capital” data for a period of 3 years which details the positive impacts enabled by the capital works undertaken. The final capital infographic below highlights some of the key impacts of the project to date. The St Canice’s project is in the early stages of post capital OBA returns and OBA data collection is ongoing for the final post capital infographic.
