    About the Project

The main aim of the project was to provide a community hub around which social cohesion could be created to ensure the provision of fit for purpose, sustainable facilities for Belvoir SureStart and to build community capacity & extend use of the building to other community services and activities.

SIF funding enabled full internal refurbishment of the Belvoir SureStart premises to provide fit for purpose, sustainable, facilities that complemented external works being supported by Belfast City Council focussed on the middle section of the building. Works were required to ensure the remaining parts of the building complied with health and safety standards.

    Progress to date

This project has completed construction and is operational. This project has provided a community resource hub to the local area providing high quality training provisions and additional services such as older peoples clubs and adult education addressing the issues and needs of children and families in the wider South Belfast area. This project was one half of a project that also included SIF funding for the refurbishment of a family room in Taughmonagh SureStart. This project is also operational and together they have helped to ensure the continuation and enhancement of the services provided by South Belfast SureStart helping to improve health, learning, social and emotional development and strengthening families and communities in the SIF Belfast South zone.

    Impacts

Monitoring and evaluation of all Social Investment Fund projects is carried out using “Outcomes Based Accountability” (OBA). Where SIF has funded capital works, the project provides quarterly “post-capital” data for a period of 3 years which details the positive impacts enabled by the capital works undertaken. The Sure Start Belvoir and Milltown project has completed its 3 years of post-capital monitoring. Below are the capital and post capital infographics which highlight the key impacts of the project.
